There\u2019s nothing more serendipitous than bringing a happy soul into your home<\/span>\u00a0just<\/span>\u00a0before<\/span>\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>worldwide lockdown<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tammer<\/span>\u00a0Stein<\/span>, an animal advocate, adopted Pluto two weeks before the coronavirus hit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her family moved to<\/span>\u00a0Singapore in late 2019<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>They decided to adopt because they believe that<\/span>\u00a0dogs bring happy chaos to<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>home.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Steins met Pluto at a volunteer’s foster home<\/span>\u00a0from the\u00a0<\/span>Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD<\/span>) <\/span><\/a>when<\/span> he was <\/span>4<\/span> months old. Tammer was initially captivated by Pluto’s confidence and curiosity. “He has the cutest face, and it always looks like he’s smiling,” she said. <\/span>After meeting and interacting with Pluto multiple times, Tammer knew that he was a gentle soul and will become a great addition to the family.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pluto was a street dog for the first few months of his life and he only ate leftovers that construction workers left behind. Tammer speculates that Pluto being a picky eater can be attributed to his experience of having tasted a wide variety of flavors. <\/span>While human food offers\u00a0<\/span>an array\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0taste<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0that can be<\/span>\u00a0exciting for dogs, they’re not always safe. Some human\u00a0<\/span>foods<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>ar<\/span>e high in salt and other seasonings, which can be toxic<\/span>\u00a0for pets<\/span>. It’s important to look for pet food brands that offer premium proteins full of flavors to help<\/span> stimulate dogs’ appetite.<\/span><\/p>\n

A piece of advice Tammer would like to give to people interested in adopting a shelter pet is to make sure they meet their potential pet a couple of times to learn about their personalities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Understand their dietary habits and how you can accommodate their needs.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s already been a year since the Steins adopted Pluto <\/span>and they couldn\u2019t be any happier. E<\/span>ven if\u00a0<\/span>the family is feeling the emotional toll of the dramatic changes to their habits due to the pandemic, <\/span>having Pluto around helped them cope better and focus on <\/span>positive things.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
